Configuring Agent Recording Policies

The Agent recording settings are configured through policies, either at the endpoint level, or on a group of endpoints. From within the ITM On-Prem Web Console you can define what the Agent should capture. By using inclusion or exclusion, you can control many aspects of the recording policy: the users, applications, specific files, URLs and specific keystroke events.

From the ConfigurationEndpoint ManagementRecording Policies page, you can view all the Recording Policy Templates, create new policies, change settings in policies, copy and delete them, as well as configure and link ITM On-Prem (ObserveIT) endpoints and endpoint groups to these policies.

By default, all Windows-based servers are automatically configured by the Default Windows-based Policy, Default Mac Policy, Unix/Linux-based servers by the Default Unix-based Policy, and Mac-based servers. Any changes to these Recording Policies will affect all respective linked machines.

Task Description

To create a new Recording Policy

  1. From the templates drop-down list, select the template of the type of recording policy you want to create (Windows/Mac-based or Unix-based), and click Create.

The new Recording Policy's properties page opens immediately, allowing you to define the settings for the new policy.

  2. Type a descriptive Name.

  3. Configure the policy settings, as required.

  4. Click Save.

The new policy appears in the Recording Policy Templates list.

To modify a Recording Policy

  1. In the Recording Policy Templates list, click the Recording Policy Template name.

The relevant Recording Policy Template properties page opens.

  2. Edit the name and/or policy configuration settings, as required.

  3. Click Save to save your changes to the Recording Policy.

Each Server polls its Application Server at the beginning of each new session or every 15 minutes to check for new configuration settings. To expedite the changes you have made to the linked Recording Policies Template, ask the user that is currently logged on to that computer to log off and log on.

To copy a Recording Policy

  • In the Recording Policy Templates list, click the Copy link next to the policy you want to copy.

To delete a Recording Policy

  1. In the Recording Policy Templates list, click the Delete link next to the recording policy that you want to delete. Default policies cannot be deleted.

Before deleting a recording policy, look at the Agents' count in the View column of the Recording Policy Templates list. If the count is 0 (zero), this means that no endpoint is linked to this policy. However, if the Agents' count is higher than zero, all endpoints that are linked to the Recording Policy you are about to delete will no longer be linked to it, and their status will turn to Manual. You can view the linked endpoints by clicking the Agents link.
